Not All Water Damage is Created Equal
If you need to purchase homeowner’s insurance, it’s important to know that different kinds of water damage may or may not be covered by your policy.
For instance, the sudden bursting of plumbing pipes or appliances is usually covered by most home insurance policies (though it is important to confirm this with your broker). However, in some cases, damage may not be covered when freezing causes the escape of water.
Sewer backup and overland flood coverage are not automatically included in most home insurance policies. Usually, they are offered as optional coverage that can be purchased as additions to the policy. Make sure you speak to your insurance rep to confirm your policy provides the level of protection you expect.
Every situation is unique. Your insurer will determine the type of water damage experienced after an adjuster examines your property. One of the key things they will be looking for are the entry points of the water.
When you trust your security to DPM Insurance Group’s brokers and CSRs, we make sure you fully understand the protections and limitations of your policy where water damage is concerned. Your security – Our responsibility.
